Letter to the Editor: DANE WHITE DOES NOT WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU
Editor, Times-Advocate:
In the last council meeting Mayor Dane White debuted his improved model for how to suppress the public’s voice—the speed meeting.
Wednesday’s meeting lasted under one hour. There were fewer than 25 speakers who wished to speak to council on Oral Communications and only three additional speakers in total on the rest of the agenda. Yet, Mayor White, exercising his “mayoral prerogative” cut all comments to 1 minute each ‘for time’. Why?
Was it too much bother for him to hear from the seniors living in senior parks about their valid concerns about changes to their communities? Was he uninterested in the solutions they offered? Was it that he was afraid to hear from residents about the new information revealed about the ICE Firing range contract? Did he have a dinner date he had to rush off to? Hard to tell.
But, what was clear is that he did not want to hear from the public. And, that is not what Escondido deserves from a mayor.
