The City committed to creation of a Climate Commission to oversee and help implement the Climate Action Plan in 2021. Years later, it is still not done. Here is a letter written by Escondido Neighbors for Solutions again in 2025 requesting the City Council take this action.
Other North County cities and governments in Vista and San Marcos have climate or general environment related public commissions that are very successful. For example,
The San Marcos Climate Action Plan Implementation Working Group was created to assist and provide recommendations to the City Council, Planning Commission, the Budget Review Committee, other city commissions as needed, and city staff with the development of plans, strategies, and actions to implement the Climate Action Plan.

Vista Unified School District Climate Action Committee
The current council’s failure to create this advisory body required in the Escondido Climate Action Plan is evidence of its lack of commitment to addressing and responding to the climate crisis.
Please email the Mayor and City Council and let them know you support creation of a Climate Commission.
